Chicago Fire Department
Spotlight on Our Firefighter Hero
Kevin Betton brings 29 years of dedicated service to the Chicago Fire Department. Since joining the department in May 1996, he has built a career defined by leadership, experience, and commitment, rising to the rank of lieutenant and currently serving on Engine 2. Kevin’s service to others began even earlier, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Operation Desert Storm. His leadership extended beyond the firehouse when he later served as Chief of the Phoenix Fire Department.
Throughout his career, Kevin has remained deeply committed to giving back to the community. Through his work with the African-American Firefighters and Paramedics League of Chicago and other organizations, he has helped lead annual food and toy drives and continues to volunteer his time cooking and serving at the Bud Billiken Parade each year.
In recognition of his service and impact, Kevin was honored with the Man of the Year award for his contributions to the communities of both Chicago and Phoenix. His career reflects not only a lifetime of service in the fire department, but a lasting dedication to uplifting the people and neighborhoods he serves.
